The Kingdom Chums: Original Top 10 is a 1990 direct-to-video movie inspired by the Biblical tale of Ten Commandments, and broadcast on the ABC network in the United States two years later. It is a sequel to The Kingdom Chums: Little David's Adventure from four years earlier. Unlike its predecessor, the characters are designed slightly different, as well as altering the children's names, such as Peter to Petey and Mary Ann to Annie, leaving Osborne's name intact. Two new characters, Essie and Little Mama Miriam (both females), are added for this sequel. Also, this sequel is given a fun-filled musical atmosphere, which is attended to enlighten the younger audiences.

Production[]

From the time of The Kingdom Chums: Little David's Adventure initial broadcast, ABC planned several follow-up specials along with a regular series.[1] One of the planned specials involved a bear named Princess Essie, in an adaptation of the story of Esther; another was to be based on the New Testament. By late 1987, the network looked into partnering with The Walt Disney Company on a series of hour-long episodes.[2] In 1989, Original Top Ten is a television special. Instead, Little David's Adventure was followed by a 1990 video sequel, Original Top Ten. A new animation team, headed by Rick Reinert, worked on the production; this time, there were no live-action segments. It also aired in April 1992,[3] and again in April 1993, as part of the ABC Weekend Specials anthology.

Trivia[]

  • This is only one hour project Reinert produced and directed.

Home Media[]

Original Top 10 was first released on VHS by Universal Studios Home Video in 1990 and again by Word Kid! Home Video in 1993 as The Search for The Original Top Ten. To date, the 1993 VHS reissue was the final home media release. However, the remaining VHS copies can be found on marketing websites, such as eBay and Amazon, but are assumed expensive since this movie hadn't been reissued on any home medias for years, as well as the titled VHS tapes ceased marketing since 2006.

Response[]

Original Top 10 became significantly well-regarded upon its release, as containing 7.8 rating score according to IMDb as of January 2019.
